Detailed characteristics of the technology demonstrated

The variety PRG 176, which is a indeterminate, semi spreading, suitable to low rainfall areas and light soils during Kharif was supplied to farmer for demonstration. Soil was tested at KVK lab and given results and applied fertilizers based on results. Pendimethalin, a pre emergence herbicide @ 2.5lt per ha was used by the farmer to control weeds up to 30 DAS ICM and IPM.

Regular monitoring of farmer field and training programmes were conducted.

08

Technical advantage of the technology demonstrated

The variety PRG 176 was high yielding, drought resistant and suitable to scare rainfall zones compared to the variety LRG 41.

Field visits to the redgram farmer’s field

Redgram is one of the major growing crop in Kurnool district and is being grown in an area of 25557ha in Kharif season. Farmer namely Sudhakar, Piligundla (V), Gonegandla (M), Kurnool District provided with improved latest groundnut variety PRG-176 seed under Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLD) Pulses by the KVK, Banavasi along with seed treatment chemicals, bio-fungicides and weedicide. Later during field visits extended technical support like use of IPM practices, dose of fertilizers, timely insect pest and disease control measures. Finally, he got a yield of 18.00q/ha. He sold his produce with a better market price of Rs. 7,000/- per quintal and he has obtained an additional net return of Rs.147340/- per hectare. He expressed happiness on this achievement and acting as contact farmer to KVK and spreading variety to other farmers of his village for further upscaling of latest technologies.
